NYC Cake Smash Photography Session

Tobie had such a fun time at her cake smash session. Initially she was a little nervous around the camera, but quickly warmed up to me. Once we put the cake in front of her she was all about smiling and trying her cake!

I always recommend that parents practice prior to the session with a cupcake to get used to the texture and taste of frosting, especially if they’ve never had sweets before. A lot of babies aren’t used to eating sweet desserts, so the sugar can be a very different experience for them. Getting accustomed to the new food/texture prior to the session helps make the session more successful. I always have a wooden spoon on hand as well to help them interact with their cake if they don’t want to dive right in for it. The spoon is a cute addition to the cake smash session because it photographs well, and babies LOVE it especially those that are teething and need something hard to chew on. It’s also another great distraction for them to help them stay in place and allow me to capture photos of them.
