Rainbow Cake Smash Session

Lena’s family have been great clients of mine. I have photographed her whole first year, including her newborn and sitter session. She is one of the most photogenic babies!

When it came to her cake smash, her mom wanted to do something special. Lena was a rainbow baby. A rainbow baby is a term for a child born to a family that has previously lost a child due to miscarriage, stillbirth or death. The name “rainbow baby” comes from the idea of a rainbow appearing after a storm, or after a turbulent time. I have used my rainbow banner quite often for the boy sessions, but no one has requested a rainbow girl cake smash before. I love that Lena’s mom wanted to use it for her session!

It took Lena a few minutes to get adjusted, but once she did she had a blast. She could have sat there for another hour smashing her cake. We were able to capture every one of her different moods- happy, sad, excited, silly, serious! I don’t think I’ve captured so many different emotions in a session before.
