Best Simple Boy NYC Session

It was so fun to capture Aspen for his milestone session. His mama is also a photographer and as a fellow photographer, she knew how excited I was when she said I could do “anything.” As a photographer, we love to hear these words; it allows us to use our imagination and do something a little outside of the box of what we normally do. Now, this doesn’t mean something completely out of our style. I had a few ideas I wanted to do which included incorporating a mirror. Aspen loved looking at himself and made the cutest faces.

For those who follow me, you know how much I love a macro/detailed shot. These can actually be super hard to get at this age compared to the newborn session, since babies are a lot more wiggly and on the go at this age. The trick is to have one parent hold the baby on their lap and another parent hold their photo/iPad across so the baby looks in that direction, or use the second parent to make them laugh. The light is perpendicular to the baby to create beautiful backlit shots.

Simple baby boy portraits like this set are his mama’s favorites and some of my favorites as well. You don’t need much to create beautiful, timeless images- just a white roll of seamless backdrop paper and a light! These types of photos are timeless and will make beautiful wall art in any home.
