Sophia was an absolute doll for her cake smash. Most parents don’t realize how quickly the sessions happen. Babies have a short attention span and the goal is to capture as many shots of them interacting with their cake in a short period of time. Sophia’s whole cake smash probably lasted at most 15 minutes. You wouldn’t believe it though if I told you! We got so many cute shots of her. Many parents are nervous after the session thinking we didn’t get enough. They are always surprised to see afterwards how many photos we actually are able to capture.

I love little Miss Sophia’s expressions during the session, ranging from serious to happy. Many parents see blog posts and think all kids love their cake smash. This couldn’t be further from the truth! In fact, many of them are serious, and some don’t even like it. My goal and job as a photographer is to snap my camera quickly to capture those moments! I have a bunch of tricks up my sleeve, but also always ask parents what gets their kids to laugh. Peak a boo with a piece of fabric in front of their face, and watching a video of themselves laugh often do the trick!
