Best Long Island City Cake Smash Session

Sawyer’s Long Island City cake smash was special for me. I have known his mom Gillian for a LONG time, as our families have been friends since we were children. It was so nice to catch up with her and see how Sawyer has been since I did his newborn photos last summer.

I always like to start the cake smash session with a pre-cake smash photoshoot of the baby. I’ll start them off in a sitter outfit and take some cute portraits of them, and mix in the ONE letters as well. Sometimes I’ll have them lay down and get some cute overhead portrait shots. Sawyer loved chewing on his ONE letters, as most babies do, since he was teething. Giving them the different letter blocks helps them focus on something as have something to play with and explore. Most of the time they end up trying to eat the letters (all sanitized afterwards of course!)

Sawyer was so playful and happy during his cake smash session! He went to town on his cake and could have been at it the entire day, if we had left him in place. I love how his mom chose these cute denim overalls for the look in his photos.

The blue in his theme definitely highlighted his bright blue eyes, as well as the blue pre-cake smash outfit. I hope his mom and dad decide to blow up these portraits and hang them in their new Long Island City home!
