St. George, Utah Engagement Photoshoot

As a professional photographer I find it so important to capture memories of your children. I love photography (I hope this is a given!) and also want to show clients how much I value it myself. There are several reasons why I post my own professional photos on my website and social media pages. You wonder, why do I do it? See below!

It has been a bucket list item of mine to do a photoshoot with Tyler Rye after I discovered his work through colleagues in the photography industry. My boyfriend and I were planning to go to Vegas to visit my parents and Tyler happened to have an opening in Utah which was 2.5 hours away. He had posted on his social media that he was nearly booked for 2023, so I wasn’t sure that the timing would work but the stars aligned! I hired Glammed Up for my hair and makeup team (a must when investing in a photoshoot) and they came to my hotel room at the Cosmo. I purchased 2 dresses, the orange one from Showpo and the blue one from Lulu’s!

What I love about Tyler’s work aside from the amazing landscapes he photographs on, are his drone/aerial shots. These were some of my favorite from the session

Oh! and I got engaged during this shoot! My now fiancé had contacted Tyler after I had booked him to plan our proposal (captured on drone video too! check my Instagram reels). I was a little bit suspicious when my fiancé had asked me to cc him on the email with Tyler (a woman’s instincts here!) but didn’t think too much of it after, as he had always told me he thought it was “cheesy” to have a photographer capture a proposal. Of course, afterwards I asked him what made him change his mind, and he told me he knew how much I loved “these things.” Sheesh! “these things” as if they’re not milestones in one’s life!

So here are a few reasons why I post my personal photoshoots even though it’s not the genre I capture (and why I will continue to do so)

1- Support for other artists in the industry. I like to think of the photography community as a community, and not a competition. We grow by supporting others, and hope they do the same in return. More good comes from helping fellow colleagues! As a small business I truly appreciate word of mouth, and referrals. The least I can do to show my support to other artists in the industry.

2- The importance of investing in art. I practice what I preach. I love professional photography and hire other artists whose work I admire. Investing in high quality photographers will be something I’m always willing to spend money on. This goes for products, as I purchase albums and fine art prints myself. I want my clients to do the same.

3- It helps show a personal side in addition to what my clients see on a day to day basis with my posts. Clients want to invest in YOU, not just your business. Sharing part of your personal life let’s clients see the real you and relate to you in many different ways
