Getting toddlers to sit still during a cake smash can definitely be a challenge sometimes. Oftentimes all I have is 5 minutes to capture an entire session. As long as the baby is sitting still for a few minutes I can get a lot of the shots I need. Ruby was definitely an explorer and didn’t care for sitting still for too long.
I always have parents wear clothes they don’t mind getting messy. Cake smash sessions often involve bringing the baby back to the set up multiple times after they’ve crawled away. Sometimes even the parents get messier than the child!

Ruby wore the cutest little leotard tutu her mom bought her from I love plum. This tutu has become quite a popular look for my cake smash sessions! It comes in a variety of cute colors, and is simple. Ruby is definitely a girly girl! It matched perfectly with my pink happy birthday banner and “1” hat I had.
